Wylie Wrestling Expectations - Student-Athletes
Concerning Coursework and Behavior
- Every student-athlete will behave in a manner that not only meets the criterion that is set in the student handbook, but that exceeds this criterion when possible.
- Every student-athlete will show respect to each other, other students, teachers, administrators, parents, and coaches.
- Any behavioral issue that exceeds a teacher assigned detention (Friday night school, parent-contact, ISS, suspension) is unacceptable.
- Every student-athlete will score an equivalent of a B or higher in every subject.
- Students that have a C average or less in a subject area will attend tutorials, and strive to increase their performance.
Concerning Practice and Events
- Every student-athlete will be punctual. All accounts of tardiness will result in extra physical activity. Three accounts of Tardiness will account for an unexcused absence.
- If a student-athlete will be late, or if an absence is foreseen he should notify a coach prior to practice.
- Attend all mandatory practices. If a practice must be missed, the wrestler must give the coach a hand-written explanation of why a practice must be missed. It is solely up to the head coach to decide if the absence is excused.
- Any unexcused absence will result in a consequence. Any unexcused absence during the week of a competition will result in the athlete being benched for that competition. Multiple unexcused absences are unacceptable, and if this occurs, the athelete will then be asked to have a parent teacher conference to see if he or she is allowed to wrestle for the remainder of the season.
- Absences should have appropriate documentation.
- Injuries must be made known to a coach, and undergo treatment on campus.
- Every student-athlete will have clean clothes daily.
- Every student-athlete will remove any piercing prior to practice, or preparations for a competition
- Every student-athlete will have all necessary gear to wrestle/train at practice (running shoes, wrestling shoes, black or maroon athletic shorts, a white undershirt or Wylie wrestling issued shirt, headgear, and mouthpiece).
- Every student-athlete will bring a positive attitude to workouts. Display the attitude of a Wylie Wrestler- Discipline, Sacrifice, Work Ethic, Commitment, Responsibility, and Accountability.
- Every student-athlete will give their best effort (listening to your coaches, learning moves, team building, and physical exertion).
- Every student athlete will be Respectful towards all Coaches and teammates.
Concerning Events
- Every student-athlete will make weight in a healthy manner, and as outlined by UIL policies and procedures. If a student-athlete feels like this can not be done they should notify a coach as soon as possible.
- Every student-athlete will have all necessary gear for competition (wrestling shoes, headgear, singlet, mouthpiece, school issued warm-ups and/or shorts and shirt, letter jacket if desired).
- Student-athletes’ will wear a button down shirt and tie on the day of competition.
- Every student-athlete will be clean shaven.
- Every student-athlete will have their fingernails trimmed.
- The Wylie Wrestling Staff believes that a wrestlers dress and grooming has an effect on their attitude and behavior. Disruption of the wrestling environment by the presence of unorthodox dress and grooming will not be permitted. The wrestling environment is not the proper place to display outlandish, distracting, or inappropriate grooming and dress fads.
- Every student-athlete will wrestle hard, and fair.
- Every student-athlete will follow the coach’s instructions.
- We all will ride the bus together and return together, unless an injury or sickness prevents this from happening.
- Every student-athlete will support their fellow wrestlers/coaches.
